In this work, siliceous breccia, a natural rock powder composed essentially of SiO2 α-quartz, has been employed directly as a catalyst without any chemical treatment for the synthesis of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) via chemical vapor deposition (CVD).

We have studied the magnetization of a recently synthesized Cu9S5 compound and found two phase transitions around room temperature. The phase transitions in the crystalline structure, characterized by XRD studies, are accompanied by changes also in the electrical resistivity.

Mediated diffusion of Mo to the surface with subsequent progressive alloying with the Fe catalyst, besides enhancing CNT height, could allow the one-step synthesis of CNT carpets with regions of different heights based on patterning these regions with different thicknesses of the Mo reservoir during sample preparation.
